We celebrated Wintergreen Learning Materials' 40th Anniversary in 2017, however, our roots in Canadian education run far deeper. Wintergreen was founded through the 1960's at Moreland-Latchford Productions, where they produced valuable prints and film strips that used cutting edge media to broadcast big idea advertisements and films. As changes to media production and distribution began to take shape, Moreland-Latchford Productions began to look towards new opportunities.

In 1977, Wintergreen was unveiled. With a passion for knowledge, Wintergreen initially distributed the ubiquitous red canisters filled with educational films that were curriculum appropriate and became utilized Nationwide. With a focus on learning through technology, product lines expanded to provide customers with historically ground-breaking technology including metric converters and language translators. In the 1990's, our company's sole focus was to foster and support Canadian education professionals.
We partnered with some of the top producers in the world and expanded distribution including Canadian childcare providers, physical education specialists, resource professionals, and administrators to name a few. Products were expanded to bridge all developmental areas and age groups, and furnishings and equipment were incorporated to enhance learning environments.
As Wintergreen moves forward, our promises remain unchanged, we will continually expand and develop product lines that exceed best practice standards. "Where does the name 'Wintergreen' come from?" is a question that I am often asked. Here's the story. Once the decision was made to begin distributing products via post, space was required for storage, packing, etc. In those early days, it was decided to make use of Hugh's farm as the initial place of business. The farm was named after the low, sweet smelling groundcover that grew throughout the property. Thus, WINTERGREEN became the name of the company that we still love today
